This week, Alden High School proudly recognizes two outstanding athletes for their exceptional achievements and dedication to their respective sports.
Athlete of the Week: Emily Lysiak (LIDA Girls Varsity Ice Hockey)
Sophomore Emily Lysiak has been a key contributor to the Lancaster, Iroquois, Depew, Alden (LIDA) Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team over the past three years. Emily currently leads the team in points through nine league games, tallying an impressive 10 goals and 11 assists for a total of 21 points. Her efforts place her among the top five scorers in the league. Over the past week, Emily showcased her offensive prowess in several key victories. On January 13, she recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 9-6 win over Niagara County. On January 14, Emily added a goal and an assist in a tight 3-2 victory over FLOP. Finally, on January 16, she delivered another stellar performance with two goals and two assists in an 8-1 win against Williamsville. Emily has emerged as a leader on the ice and one of the league’s most formidable offensive players.

Athlete of the Week: Amelia Monin (Varsity Rifle)
Sophomore Amelia Monin has been a standout performer on the Varsity Rifle team, showcasing her skills and determination this season. After narrowly missing a Sectional appearance in her freshman year, Amelia came back strong in her sophomore season. In the first league match at Pioneer, she scored an impressive 278 out of 300, earning her a Sectional qualification. Amelia continued to excel, delivering another qualifying performance in the 3-position competition. Competing against the number one team in ECIC, Orchard Park, she shot the highest kneeling target of the night and achieved the top team score of the season. Amelia has consistently placed in the top four in every match so far and has been a supportive and positive influence on her younger teammates.
