This week, Alden High School proudly recognizes two exceptional athletes for their outstanding performances in their sports.
Alivia Gadd (Varsity Cheerleading)
Alivia Gadd embodies teamwork, resilience, and leadership. A versatile powerhouse, she stepped up this season by transitioning from her preferred flyer position to a base—because that’s what the team needed. She made this change with a can-do attitude, proving her commitment to the squad.
Alivia’s positive energy, skill, and humor help lighten intense moments, keeping the team focused and motivated. As the first competition approached, she led by example, pushing through a challenging week of practices and inspiring her teammates to do the same. She didn’t fold under pressure but instead lifted those around her, helping the team reach competition day prepared and determined.
Alivia’s dedication and leadership make her an invaluable part of the cheer program. Keep up the great work!

William Shaver (Varsity Boys Basketball)
Junior Liam Shaver (#2) played a key role in the Bulldogs’ comeback effort against Depew, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. He scored 11 points on 3-8 shooting, including two three-pointers, while also going 3-4 from the free-throw line. In addition to his offensive contributions, Liam grabbed four rebounds and dished out an assist.
Taking over as the team’s point guard, he provided much-needed stability, keeping the offense steady and composed. On the defensive end, he took on the challenge of guarding the opponent’s top scorer for extended stretches, proving his value on both sides of the court.
Liam’s leadership and determination continue to elevate the Bulldogs. Great job, and good luck with the rest of the season!
– Matt Moretti III, Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
