Varsity Softball Home Opener

Morgan Rutan, Sports Reporter

The girl’s varsity softball team had their home opener against Maryvale Thruday April 14. Going into the game with confidence and an outstanding attitude the girls had a great defensive and offensive game. They know they can’t go into the game thinking they will win; every team wants the chance to say they beat one of the final four state teams. While leading up to this game the girls attended tough practices to get them ready for their games. Each girl has the same love and dedication for the sport, with this the team will be able to work together and go far. As the game began Laura Kratzke started the game with three strikeouts to have the lady bulldogs up at the plate. The girls were very shaky to start and had three outs right away. The girls went back into the field where they showed great defense to let no runs in. While up at the plate again the team got more comfortable while having nice solid hits to take the lead. The girls ended the game with a score of 12-1. Laura Kratzke had a 1-hitter with 10ks. While playing with the new outfield fence Laura was the first to hit a homer over the fence to score two runs. Jenna Wlostowski was 4-5, 3 RBI and Brooke Stausbaugh went 3-4 at the plate. Together as a team the girls had 14 hits with many outstanding plays especially catches in the outfield by Alyssa Kozak having two and Morgan Rutan having one. Maryvale did score a run due to an error and a nice hit but the girls will work harder and try to eliminate their errors. It was a nice team win, the girl’s travel to Alexander this Saturday for their tournament.
