On November 10th, Alden High School held their fifth annual Veterans Day Ceremony. About 51 veterans came to this event representing all military branches. The Alden HS Band and Chorus performed several patriotic numbers throughout the event. An inspirational speaker from the United States Army, Major Jeff Buczak, talked about his experience during the time he served. Major Buczak is an Alden graduate; he later attended West Point Military Academy. He continued on with his career in the Army. Senior, Adam Elis was recognized for his enlistment into the Marine Corps. For his public speaking class, he was chosen to read his “Voice of Democracy” essay illustrating his responsibility to America.

WACS News got the chance to go to a  local veteran’s house, Mr. Peter Reader, and hear about his experience in Normandy on D-Day. During the interview, he mentioned that his greatest regret was not receiving his high school diploma before he was drafted. Mr. Ryan and Mr. Stoltman presented Mr. Reader with an Alden High School Diploma, which was a surprise to Mr. Reader. After the ceremony, we caught up with Mr. Reader to hear what he had to say about this honor. He was overjoyed and extremely grateful for what Alden has done for him. With 51 veterans attending this was another outstandingly successful Veterans Day Ceremony.
